Private feminist walking tours in English: just you, your friends or your group.
Our godmothers
Two pioneering feminists stand behind Feminists in the City.

Claudine Monteil
French historian, author and honorary diplomat
The youngest signatory of the 1971 Manifesto of the 343, in which women publicly declared they had had an abortion, Claudine campaigned alongside Simone de Beauvoir for sixteen years, until Beauvoir’s death in 1986. Her books on Beauvoir have been translated into several languages. Claudine supports Feminists in the City in all its initiatives.

Jamia Wilson
Award-winning feminist activist, writer, speaker and podcaster
Former director of the Feminist Press at the City University of New York and former vice president of programs at the Women’s Media Center, Jamia has been a leading voice on women’s rights for more than a decade. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, CNN, the BBC and The Washington Post, and she is the author of several books, including Young, Gifted and Black.
Our feminist tours in Paris
Private tours in English · about 2 hours

The Witch Hunt: Powerful Women of Paris
1h45–2h · Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement)
Feminists in the City reveals a hidden history in the heart of the Panthéon district: the story of the powerful women who lived in its streets, who were barred from positions of power, influence and glory, who were charged with witchcraft and heresy, who were made invisible. From the Middle Ages to the present day, come and rediscover the inspiring lives of the politicians, queens and writers who left their mark on their time.

Visit Montmartre with Hysterical Feminists
1h45–2h · Pigalle / Montmartre (18th arrondissement)
Feminists in the City takes you through the historic red-light districts to rediscover history through a feminist lens. From the cabarets to the street art of Pigalle and Montmartre, we explore the history of feminist subjects often considered taboo, such as prostitution and sex shops. Step into the world of historical women such as the “Red Virgin” and Dalida, in a relaxed atmosphere of discussion and debate.

Street Art & Feminism
1h45–2h · Butte-aux-Cailles (13th arrondissement)
Feminists in the City takes you on the trail of feminism through the lanes of the Butte-aux-Cailles, a village-like neighborhood and a hotspot of feminist street art. We discover the history of the neighborhood, of the movement for gender equality, and of women and/or feminist street artists. Committed street artists regularly join our tours for a live paste-up.

France, Women and Power
1h45–2h · 7th arrondissement
Feminists in the City invites you to the 7th arrondissement of Paris to explore the history of women’s rights in France. Discover the struggles for equality that deeply shaped French society, and the historical role of women in key positions of power in politics, health, diplomacy and science. This tour is an invitation to build a fairer future for all.

Feminist Terror at Père Lachaise Cemetery
1h45–2h · Père Lachaise Cemetery (20th arrondissement)
Meet the exceptional women who rest in Père Lachaise Cemetery and (re)discover this unusual corner of Paris with Feminists in the City. We tell the fascinating lives of extraordinary figures, feminists who terrified the morals of their time, from Monique Wittig and Colette to Mathilde de Morny, who often remain unknown despite their achievements!

Louvre & Feminism
Musée du Louvre
Feminists in the City invites you to the Louvre for an unusual feminist tour. We rediscover key works of this temple of culture through a feminist lens. From the Winged Victory of Samothrace to the Virgin Mary, by way of Liberty Leading the People, we trace the history of gender equality and of iconic women, and debate the place of “the second sex” in the art world.

Women at Musée d’Orsay
Musée d’Orsay · 2 hours
In this tour of the Musée d’Orsay’s permanent collections, we discuss both the representation of women through time and the lives of inspiring women artists exhibited in the museum. From Rosa Bonheur to Suzanne Valadon, by way of Camille Claudel, we trace the lives of iconic women who left their mark on the 19th century, as artists and as models.

“My sister and I are visiting from California for the first time. We’re both art lovers and feminists so this was perfect. […] Would recommend this to any person passionate about feminism, street art or both!”
